I hastily bid on a set of golf clubs, but have since found others that I like better.

You can retract a bid. Generally retraction will not hurt you unless your a habitual retractor.

Nope. Its a legal, binding contract, unless its obviously an error, such as bidding $1000 for an item that's max worth is $10....its pretty obvious its a typo wherein you missed the decimal point. Sometimes the seller (if you win) will agree to forego the bid; however, you would have to pay the re-listing fee - it costs the seller to list the item you bid on twice.

Look up the rules on retracting a bid. It can be done if the auction still has (I think) 24 hours to go.

There is a process for withdrawing bids but as I recall it can not be used in the last 24 hours of the auction.

If you are past that limit email the seller and tell him you can not buy them now. If you end up the winner you will have to pay his sales costs so that he can relist the item. BUT.. keep in mind that it is a contract and, unless he is willing to go the cost reimbursment, he is within his rights to demand you buy them and sell them yourself.

here ya go...
go to site map on ebay.com

go down to bottom of page - look for "Buying Resources"

Bid Retractions is right there. click on it and fill in the information
if this does not work.. contact the seller and ask them to cancel your bid - they can cancel your bid anytime throught the auction!!!

Contact the seller, but you'll need to come up with a better excuse than you found some better.
