It was never his wish to be very public, but he does escort her around and is happy hunting and fishing. It can be hard on a man to have his wife have precedence in protocol when they are out and about.

I don't think the Duke of Edinburgh's title or station is transferable. If I remember correctly it is like being a War Lord. Yes sometimes such can be statesmen but only rarely and at best become Emperors. Really, military governor or leader. A consort, if I can use that term is created as such to give the proper peerage in a delicate union like that between two people. Married people, irrespective of their station shouldn't be too far from each other in any case.

We do see and hear about him,but not as much as about The Queen who does have that important role in the UK.Unfortunately for the Duke of Edinburgh, the press seems to like to talk about him when he says something very inappropriate.

Prince Phillip prefers more quiet activities with family and his hobbies and very seldom is asked his opinion on royal matters. He is seen most of the time when the queen is in public view but few people recognize him amongst the other well-dressed gentlemen around her. He is the tall, slender, balding quiet man to her left, usually.

Prince Phillip the Duke of Edinburgh is with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth ll on her trip to America...in fact he was shown on British TV tonight when Dubya and Queen Elizabeth were giving their speeches...so if we could see him here then you must have been able to see him there...

I wouldn't say we 'never' see him. He's often out with her, and you can check royal.gov.uk for a list of his own engagements.
