Well, the very fact that you are afraid shows that you have some level of maturity and self control right there!
I know what you mean. When I lived at home, my parents were so strict. Then, I moved away and went to college, and I used to call my mom and tell her everything, and she said "You know, you don't have to call me every day, and don't need to ask my permission to go out." I was kind of like "Oh". I think parents need to let the kids discover their freedom a little at a time, so that you don't give it to them all at once.
Just follow your instincts and remember the golden rule "Do unto others what you would have them do unto you" and you will be fine. Don't fall in with the wrong crowd, and don't get yourself into debt!

It seems as though you are aware of the responsibilities of being an adult and that it's about more than just 'independence.' But at the end of the day, it's really up to you to make your own decisions as well as how far you take or independence. You don't have to go out and get our own apartment and start paying your bills the day you turn 18 (or maybe you do, depending on your parents) but my point is, just remember that whether you're 12 or 18 or 27 you hold the power to make your own choices.

i also will be turning 18 in 2 months, but i have a different situation. my parents have always been very strict and controlling, and I'm waiting until I can have freedom. Them being so strict has only made me want to get out and rebel and experience life. I know its wrong, and may get out of hand, but it seems like there's nothing I can do. I constantly feel like that. I think being given a lot of independence would have helped me mature, and I wouldn't be so rebellious. I don't want to get out of hand, but then I go and get caught up in the moment and my new freedom. Its very hard. I would say set your principles; decide what you are fine with and what you don't want to do. If you set guidelines for yourself, you will be better prepared when given that freedom of what you should and should not do.

At least your already thinking about it and trying to find ways to control yourself. You seem pretty mature for your age since many young men don't worry about such things. I have a hunch you'll be fine.

The fact that you are mature enough to recognize this tells me you will be fine. Just keep in mind that it is okay to have fun, but do it responsibly. Happy Birthday early!

Whatever you do, if things get outta hand, DO NOT HURT/CUT YOURSELF! I have before and it does not help. it just becomes an addiction.
