I just returned from the gyno, and was told to monitor my blood pressure -- when he took it, it was 140/100. Normally, my blood pressure is perfect! I was VERY nervous - this was a new doctor for me, and he took my blood pressure before right the exam. I even told him i was nervous. WHen I came home and took it, and it was 1203/83.
This happen to anyone else???

it happens to alot of people, it is called white coat sydrome. yes there is actually a name for it. but go ahead and monitor your blood pressure, do it once a week at the same time each time for a month, if you are stable, then I wouldnt worry about the occasional spike.

It's very normal. I almost always have a higher than normal blood pressure when I go to the doctor. It's because I'm scared half out of my wits about needles - that causes the adrenaline to rush, which then causes the higher spike in blood pressure. If you think your blood pressure is higher because you are nervous at the doctor, perhaps you can get your blood pressure measured at another doctor that won't make you nervous (I like to have mine done at the chiropractor's office - he doesn't make me nervous in the least!). I've had the home blood pressure cuffs, and unless you are sure that it's a high-quality one, I'd be more likely to trust the one at a doctor's office.

Another trick that I've found is to listen to extremely relaxing, slow music. I had an unnatural fear of the dentist - I say "had" because now I enjoy going to the dentist. I popped on my iPod and listened to a playlist of all slow and relaxing music. I got so relaxed that they were afraid they had put me to sleep! And that was while they were doing a root canal! No more fear of the dentist.

Good luck!

Yes I have had that but I really do have high blood pressure but normally all women have elevated bp at the gyne office I have been going to the gyne for 12 years now and it has mostly been high. After you get comfortable with the gyne and dr's it wont be high.
