Filesharing will get regulated before that happens.

I hate to see filesharing go unchecked because then the artists don't get paid and aren't worried about making a truly great album - just some throwaway single. But don't get me wrong - the RIAA charges WAY too much for its "services".

Think before asking this question. If there's no recording industry, there wouldnt be recorded music or artists. So the recording industry is important. If they want us to buy their album, they should come up with a better price for their Cds and something new that wouldnt damage the Cds.
But it wont die, never. unless u wanna hear crappy music without being mastered.

when preteens stop looking for heroes to emulate. if a band has enough fanatics, it will stand and consistently make profits off of an album, no matter how readily available it is on limewire or wherever. take NiN's year zero. nifty marketing plan with a 24 page booklet in the album. Coupling that with NiN's online fanbase and legions of worshipers across the world brings them to number 2 on the charts.

Of course, that's just one example. There are many other bands that have similar kinds of religious support. You know, there are ppl like you and I that don't care. If these bands were strapped for cash and actually needed my support, I'd be the first in line. But they're freaking millionares!

I do try to support my favorite underground bands though, even if they have a record label.

If the recording industry died then there would be no file sharing, because there would be no music recorded to share. There would be the music that is already recorded. There would also be independent labels, but a lot of that music isn't worth listening to anyway.
