I have 5 kids. That includes one set of twins. I haven't nursed since my son and he is now 11 years old. I am still lactating and my kids are too old to be nursed. Is this normal?

I don't think that it's normal to be lactating for so long, since I stopped lactating after three months of trying to pump for my son. Nothing would come out at all after the three months, even when I would apply pressure to them, so I had to switch to formula. That's something I would ask the doctor about...either your OB/GYN or your regular medical doctor.

As for the other posters...where in the question does it say that her youngest child was 11? She hasn't nursed since her son and now he's 11, but that doesn't mean he's her youngest. I'm sorry, I just had to clear that up because other posters were confusing me to the point that I had to read the question 4 times.

I agree with that other poster...28 with the YOUNGEST being 11yrs old doesn't sound right.

And no, you shouldn't be lactating still. That seems a little bit of a medical mystery considering your breasts dry up after not nursing for a while and I don't mean "a while" as in "11 years".

If this is an honest issue, you really should seek medical advice ASAP. Asking on Yahoo Answers isn't gonna help you.

Did you press the wrong button? How can you be 28 with 5 kids and your youngest is 11... that would mean that by the time you were 17 you had 5 kids. Assuming that possibly you pressed the wrong button and maybe you are 38? You need to go to the OB-GYN and get a pill to stop lactating. It happens to many women and the doc simply prescribes a short course of medication to stop lactation.

You need to call your gyn, he/she will order some bloodwork to check your prolactin level. If it's elevated, the doc will most likely order an MRI to check your pituitary gland.

I was on a medication that caused me to lactate. My prolactin levels were increased. I had an MRI and it turned out that I have a small pituitary growth. It is BENIGN, nothing to worry about. I had another MRI done to follow up on it a year later, and will have another one done next year.

I did stop taking that med, btw. Are you on any meds?

Call your doc. Don't be worried.

In another question of yours that I happened to look at today, you say you have five kids and need another name for a baby. I assume that means you're pregnant again? That could be the reason for you producing. If not, could be due to hormones, otherwise, see a doc. Best of luck.
