We have a graco system also. All carseats will move a little, no slide around but the won't be 100% solid. What I was told at the clinic and fire fall is the front of those bases will move up and down a little and thats ok, but they should not slide from side to side...if they do you are not pulling it tight enough....try taking you knee into the top of the base close to the back seat, with all your weight, the pull the strap tight....I hope you can get it to work....those bases make things so easy.

Depending on where you live, the are people that will help with carseat placement. You could try a car dealership as well. Where I live we have a Safe Kids Coalition-you could see if you have something similar in your area. The fire department or police department may help. From a mom's point of view, I think they are safer without the base-they just son't seem safe on the bases. Just buckling your newborn in the seat without the base would be perfectly fine. ANd COngratulations on your new bundle of joy!!!

It's actually SAFER to buckle it WITHOUT the base according to the latest -- some of the bases have been faulty and what you THINK is a securly fastened baby can turn out to be in great danger b/c the base releases the car seat.
I've been driving down the road and heard the carseat "click" after I'd already put it in the base. YIKES!

Definitely use the base, and yes if you call around there are several check places to make sure that the car seat is in place tightly. I had mine check at my local dealership where I purchased my vehicle. At no charge. They had to place some sort of a roll under the seat to lift if up in the back.
You can also call you vehicle insurance carrier and see if they have anything like that along with your local rescue squad. Make your phone calls first though, before going by...
Only use the "seat only" when you are in a tight spot and you do not have the base.

Yes, some of them can be placed without the base.... And it is safe, as long as it is done right. However, it will be easier to just take the seat and base to the fire department or police department and have them put it in, so that you can carry the carseat without having to unattach it to the car. They can help you. Also, Babies R Us has the fire company to the store every so often to show you how to install it properly. Just call your nearest one and check... Good luck and Congrats!

Hi, I have both base and carrier and always found if the base was in properly it was very secure. You can use the carrier without but gotta say if you can fit the base well and its secure its so much easier than keep strapping in and out each time. I use without the base when in my dads car but in mine the base is in all the time!
Also, its halfords that help with car seat fitting. Cheers

The police station will often help you fit the child seat correctly. Also, your local car dealer for your car brand is generally eager to help.
It would be difficult in words to describe to you how to install it. My words couldn't possibly be as detailed as the directions from both the Graco and your cars owners manual. But, do make sure you look at both of them before attempting an install.

Yes, your local fire or police department should be able to help. If the base is optional then you are probably safe just buckling in the seat but you should visit your public safety department anyways just so they can show you how to do it and what to look for.

Well, protecting a newborn is better placed at the backseat.I experienced same and my baby was thrown in the floor . Buckle it but be sure to bring extra pillows .If your baby throws in the floor you may think of burning that Graco.

It should not be wobbly when it is in right. You can use the base or just the seat, but it should be secure. Call your local police or fire and ask - they have car seat checks all the time. Always better to be safe.
