Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln would be viewed as progressives, if they ran for office today.

Thus, they would be running as Democrats.

To answer your question, Gingrich, Lott, Foley, et al are self-righteous hypocrites, and are an embarrassment to all Americans, regardless of political persuasion.

I've never considered Lincoln a republican using today's definition.

His stance on slavery places his social politics far to the left of real republicans of any era.

Teddy Roosevelt was another case altogether. Do some research on his appropriation of the land the Panama Canal sits on and tell me again how great a man he was.

His domestic policies were a bit more democratic in nature, but his foreign policies were madness.

My guess is you don't know much about history. Let me help. See if you can recall the great legacy left by Franklin Pierce, James Buchanan, Grover Cleveland, Martin Van Buren? All notable Democrats. How about the team of Kennedy and Johnson who brought you Vietnam and and Bay of Pigs. Or Franklin Roosevelt who gave away most of Europe to Russia, introduced the US to socialism and who led us into the second world war as a way to get out of the depression (yes we knew the Japanese were going to attack Pearl Harbor). How about Jimmy Carter who put us into the most inflationary period in history? And who can forget the legacy of Bill Clinton who brought sex and shame to the Presidency. By the way, did you know that Lincoln did not want to free the slaves?

Yes they do insult the memory of those two great men. I would venture a guess that they would also be in insult to President Eisenhower too.

Not that I ever saw. I'm the only one. Not Teddy, that man had God on his side. Just Lincoln. He was a liar, and a thief. Most people seem to want to forget his history, as a lawyer. Wrote a book about him, and his lying tactics in the courtroom.
Teddy, and Lincoln weren't the two greatest president's. Ronald Reagan, and Thomas Jefferson were. Neither took any crap, and made absolutely sure that Americans had rights!
Lincoln took them away. The right to secede from the Union, was just one of them.

Some do, although It would be hard for them to insult the memory of past leaders like that, as much as dems are doing of great democratic leaders of the past.

Few, Democrat or Republican, can stack up very well against two of our greatest Presidents.

You may be surprised to realize that FDR, Truman, and John Kennedy's memories were ruined when Biden was trying to surrender and making false assertions about the war being lost and Nancy was trying to promote good will with our enemies.

This conservative doesn't think Abraham Lincoln was a great man. Theodore Roosevelt is another story. Great president.
