Try playing a game of Spades and going "Blind Nil" and picking up your hand to find the Ace of Spades. That's about as hopeless as a situation gets.

umm...the quote has a few flaws.

i agree that there are no hopeless situations, but would you categorize death as a non-hopeless situation?

"there are men who have grown hopeless about 'THEM'"

So what it's saying is the men have grown hopeless about themselves, which has nothing to do with the situation. It has to do with the person, not the situation.

So which is it? the quote needs to say:
"There are no hopeless situations, only men who have grown hopeless, to see a situation as such."

Depends on the individual. Borodino and Waterloo would've happened no matter what the general outlook. Destiny has to be figured into it and who the person is. It isn't " impersonal '.
