which one is bigger 2/3 or 4/5

The trick of solving these questions is to find the LCM of the two denominators and make the two fractions based on this LCM

So in your case, the two denominators are: 3, and 5 so the LCM is 15.

To make both fractions similar, multiply the 1st fraction by 5 and 2nd fraction by 3 to get:

10/15 and 12/15

Now ask yourself the question: Which part is bigger - the one with 10 smaller parts out of 15 or 12 smaller parts out f 15. The answer is obviously 12 out of 15

So 12/15 is bigger = 4/5

Hope this helps!

2/3 = 0.667
4/5 = 0.8

so 4/5 is bigger

Make the denominator common:

(2/3)*(5/5) = 10/15
(4/5)*(3/3) = 12/15

thus 4/5 is bigger

as others have said, you can convert to a common denominator and then see which one is bigger.
Another way is to multiply the means and see if that is bigger, smaller, or equal to the extremes. what is meant by that is the following:

a/b < = > c/d

you have two fractions, a/b and b/c. you want to see which one is bigger or if they are the same. you multiply a nd d together, which is known as the means and then you multiply b and c together, which is known as the extremes. if the means, that is a*d > b*c, then the first fraction is larger. if the extremes, that is b*c is larger than a*d, then the second fraction is bigger. and if a*d = b*c then the two fractions are equal.

this is a much easier way than to converting the two fractions to the same denominator.

an example.

3/4 < = > 3/6

ad = 18
bc = 12

since ad > bc then first fraction is larger.

2/3 = 10 / 15
4/5 = 12 / 15
4/5 is bigger

The easiest way to find the answer to this question is to convert these two fractions to decimals.

2/3 as a decimal is 0.66

4/5 as a decimal is 0.8

Therefore we can see that 4/5 is bigger than 2/3

One way to figure it out is to modify the fractions so that they have the same denominator. To do that, find the LCD, which in this case is 15, and multiply each number in the numerator accordingly to obtain equivilent fractions.

2/3 = 10/15

4/5 = 12/15

Now it is easier to compare the two fractions, and you can see that 12/15, or 4/5 is greater.

2/3 = 66% and 4/5 = 80% so the answer is 4/5 and I have a degree in maths!

think of it this way:

2 / 3 = 0.66666 4 / 5 = 0.80

this is point-eight (just count):

(0) o o o o o o o | o (1) o o o o o o o o o (2)

this is point-six-six-six (infinity six):

(0) o o o o o o |o o o (1) o o o o o o o o o (2)

so the one that takes up the greater area on the number line is the bigger, and that is the 4/5 or 0.80
