I was married to the guy 37 years , I was only my maiden name for 20 years. I earned the right to keep it if I want to and it is so confusing to the kids and grandkids if you change your name after all those years. All my business assoicates over the last 30 years no me by that name . Why spend more money changing my name .

After my kids wre born, I always said if we ever divorced, I would keep his name because of them. Now that I am facing the possibility of one (divorce) and I'm starting to hate and resent him so much, I doubt I'll keep anything of his except his kids and pension. Having a lying cheating abusive, manipulating husband can do that to a womans attitude.

My ex's X kept hers too and it infuriated me but they did have kids. That I can see. I was recently divorced this past Feb and immediately requested my maiden name back. No cost here in FLA but the hassle that I have yet to get through with drivers lic., credit cards, work!, and everything else, its a very lengthy process. No kids for me but I really feel that my family name is important.

I know one woman that kept it because she said she didn't want her daughter's classmates to constantly ask her why she and her mom has different last names. And I know other women who didn't keep it. I guess it depends on the individual. But, I honestly didn't know that it costs money to get your name changed back to your maiden name. Dang....marriage and divorce is expensive. Maybe I should stay single! lol

Most don't statistically. There are some that do though in the case of professionals (I guess keeping it is cheaper than replacing all their business cards and the hassle of getting all their ID's redone) or women with children.

Well my mom kept her last name of her thrid hubby because they were married many years and everyone in the business she worked in knew her by that name. So its alot easier for her to keep the last night, until she gets re-married..

Many do not.

However, many do.

It is pretty expensive to change your name - that may be one reason. Another reason maybe because they have children by that name, and yet another reason may be so that people she has met since the marriage took place would be able to find her more easily.

I don't know and that is certainly not an exhaustive list.

I did for two reasons: kids (I wanted us to have the same name) and my maiden name is extremely difficult to spell and pronounce. Plus I was married for so long that most people know me professionally and personally with my married name so I kept it.
