Painted turtles should be fed turtle pellets everyday which can be bought in most pet stores, although if it is a baby, it might refuse to eat them. If that happens, buy a couple of live feeder fish and put them in the tank. They love to hunt them and it can be very entertaining to watch too! lol :P

The reason that they might only eat feeder fish as babies is because they are mostly carnivorous.

Other things that u can feed them are crickets, many types of worms, certain fruits or vegetables (be very careful cuz some could kill them or make them very sick!!), they can also eat cooked chicken, turkey, and many other things.

Good luck!

Hello..reptiles have special needs but aren't hard to keep..tiny ones is probably best fed with wax, meal or earth worms for now..as they get bigger they can eat larger things like crickets or beetles..available where reptiles are sold ..BUT IF ..you found this turtle in or near a pond, stream, river..they are usually illegal to keep, seldom survive or make good pets...anything aquatic & meat eating can & do carry diesease which they are immune to but you, your family nor your other pets are. so if you found it, return it to where you found it ASAP !! Take Care :)

You can buy water turtle food at a pet store, it floats, they are also carnivorous, so you can give it worms and grasshoppers, whatever
