Yep, you either get your own text or get to give an "affirmation" you're telling the truth. If you refuse to do any of the above, you may be dismissed.

They can swear on another religious book or just affirm...that doesn't stop cross examination which is the whole basis of the British System, that the witness be tested to find the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

Yes
If like me you don't practice a religion then you are asked to take an affirmation:
'I do solemnly swear and affirm that the evidence I shall give will be the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth'
That's what I always do.

This is why in MOST court rooms throughout the globe you will hear:
"Do you solemnly swear or AFFIRM the testimony you're about to give is the truth..."

Yes. People who do not swear on the Bible are informed of perjury and agree to tell the truth under penalty of perjury.

Yes. You can affirm. The affirmation is: "I do solemnly, sincerely and truly declare and affirm that the evidence I shall give shall be the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth."
That must surely be acceptable to you?
No adult is allowed to give evidence unless he makes some kind of undertaking to speak the truth.

No offence but what a meaningless question as if it matters, ask Jeffrey Archer, Owen Oysten, or the Hamiltons. Take direction by them for goodness sake.
