The main good thing that bacteria does for us is digest food. In the human stomach there millions of bacteria from millions of species that help digest our food living in a symbiotic relationship. This relationship is beneficial because the bacteria obtain food while the human host obtains nutrients given as waste products from the bacteria.

One such example is lactose sugar. Humans that are lactose intolerant are lacking the bacteria that digest lactose converting it into glucose (the sugar that humans use). Another example is E. coli, a bacteria that helps digest food in humans. If it wasn't for e-coli then humans would not be able to eat many of the food that we do.

There is also bacteria on our skin that helps us from contracting disease. Many of the bacteria on our skin kill other harmful bacteria and viruses that try to enter our bodies. These bacteria live on the oil our skin produces.

Another good use of bacteria is that it is a good organism for research purposes. It can reproduce fast, over a million cells in an hour and are relatively simple creatures. The most famous bacteria is E. coli because it has the capabilities mentioned above (dividing fast and simple).
