Don't they understand that one of the reasons Jamarcus was drafted no 1 and considered a much better prospect than Brady Quinn was because he's too friggin' big and strong to get sacked (especially compared to Quinn)?
His O-line is definitely going to be terrible, but how are the NFL defensive ends and linebackers, most of whom are a lot smaller than Jamarcus, bring down this beast that is probably the strongest quarterback ever to play in the NFL? I mean, just look at his size.
What about defensive tackles?
Well, if they ever get anywhere near Jamarcus, he's just gonna outrun them with his 4.7 40 yard dash and fool them with his athleticism.
Jamarcus is going to start next year, have a hell of a year, and WON'T get sacked that much.
Who agrees?

It doesn't matter how big a player is. Russell will be standing back there and the defenders will be running full speed at him. He plays in a division where he has to play San Diego twice (they led the league in sacks last year) and they are playing with an O-line that allowed 72 sacks last year. That is horrible. They also play the colts and Jags this year, both teams have great pass rushers. You are right, you are not going to arm tackle Jamarcus Russell and drag him down with one arm. You also aren't going to trip him up with a hand like some QB's, but the NFL is a whole different game then NCAA and the first time Shawn Merriman comes around the edge full speed and hits him blind side...welcome to the league.

Put down the pipe.
Their OL is the worst in the league. Russell isnt fast enough to outrun the NFL DL and LBs. Remember NFL players are the best of the best from college. They are bigger, faster, and stonger than the average college player. Unless the Raiders do a lot of improving in the next few years Russell is just another Culpepper. Culpepper is just as big and was just as fast. He got sacked plenty of times ended up with a serious knee injury that he will probably never recover from. Russell is headed down the same road.

He has skills and there's a few skills on the group yet until Al Davis makes a decision to permit a coach coach and not run the organization like a circus we'd by no potential see what sort of quarterback Jamarcus can relatively be. regrettably he's on a very undesirable group with tousled possession and his skills might bypass to waste. He may be a much better version of Dante Culpepper yet he is going to have relatively teach that he needs it. so a techniques is a rollercoaster quarterback. If he might nicely be consistant then there is an threat.

i dont agree
look at daunte culpepper
hes bigger than russell and gets sacked a lot.
it doesnt matter how big a QB is most of the time because they will go down when they feel like they have it. i think you'd rather have your franchise QB take a sack rather than try to break the tackle and injure himself or scramble and throw a pick on the run.
and trust me, even thought OLB are getting smaller, they know how to hit. ill take a Cato June against a JaMarcus Russell in the pocket any day

Have you seen the Raiders O line, absolutely terrible. As for his 4.7 40 speed, Linebackers in the NFL got to that level because they are fast, they will eat that 40 time alive. He will be another Drew Bledsoe or Byron Leftwitch, a heavy set QB with a rocket arm, that is immobile as can be.

He will definately get sacked a lot. Yeah, he is big and all, but the LBs will just go for his legs. Also, even if he were to break one tackle, there is going to be at least 2 or 3 defenders coming at him with that garbage O-line trying to block for him.

He won't get sacked 3-7 times a game, but the Raiders didn't get any O-linemen in the offseason or in the draft.

I'm sorry, but a team that allowed 72, that's right, 72 sacks last year can't just fix themselves. Being hit on the blindside will take any QB down. I don't care how big and strong Russell is. You get hit on the back and you will go down.

are you kidding me?
dude, hes not Superman
hes wicked big and strong but theres only so much he can do
you said it yourself, his O-line is awful, probably the worst in the league.........
there are other big and strong QB's but you cant just shrug off a NFL D-lineman.........
ie McNair and Culpepper have been sacked quite a few times
if you think hes just gonna break tackle after tackle you havent watched much football..........hes still human ya know...
he will get sacked alot, most rookies do.......
NFL likes to blitz rookies alot, especially when they have a bad line........
id say around 40-50 sacks........
do you think he can shrug off a guy like Shawn Merriman?
