Whenever I come near the tank too fast or I open the lid too fast my fish get scared, it seems like. And then they'll all just go in the corner like huddle and stay there for like 10 mins & their fins start moving reallyy fast. It scares me cause I'm afraid they might die.

Earlier this morning I went to feed my fish and I must've tapped the tank & one of my fish literally freaked out and started swimming really fast & swimming in circles, I thought it was going to die. When I had them in their other tank which was a 3 ga I think, I now have a 10..they were completely fine with water changes.

I'm just scared they're going to die. I've had them for a couple months or so. And I got the tank at the beginning of May, maybe. It might've been the last week in April or something. But I haven't had it long.

I'm just hoping that they're still adjusting to their tank. I don't know.

If anyone else has experienced something like this, let me know! Cause I'm afraid my fish are going to die!

Your fish are ok. They will be scared of you, you are bigger than them. I would suggest getting a 20 gl tank though for your fish. You don't say how many you have but they will do better with a larger tank and lots of little hiding spots. Also make sure you have a good filtration system and that you are doing water changes regularly. Pretty much disease, drastic changes in water temperatures and toxic levels of nitrates, nitrites and ammonia are what kill fish. Now if you have a cat that is watching them that might be a different story. ;o)

Your fish are not going to die because of that. Mine do the same thing and what they feel is the vibrations of your movement towards the tank. Give it some time and I am thinking they are going to start getting adjusted to it. Now what might kill them or be stressing them far worse is your new tank. Did you transfer any gravel from the other tank? Your new tank is going to go through another cycle process and the rise in ammonia and nitrites are definetly going to stress them far worse then your movements towards the tank. Please get a water test kit, even if you are doing water changes, you need to make sure your bacteria colony gets stabilized first.

That's pretty much normal for them, they see you as something big that might eat them, so they try to run. Approach the tank more slowly and open the lid slowly and quietly and it will help them calm down a lot.

even my kissing gourami gets a little freaked out when i approach the tank too fast or make some loud sound..........so its pretty normal.......don't scare them like that, approach slowly and avoid making loud noises..............also make sure they have enough hiding places, that will make them feel secure............good luck!
