Yes, a photo would help.

Does the red area have a white "fuzzy" rim around it? It could be a bacterial infection called columnaris. Furanace (generic name Nifurpirinol) will clear this.

It could also be a bacterial infection by Aeromonas if it lacks the white fuzzy edge.
