Alright if I remember my algebra correctly....
First we need to group like terms and in order to do that we have to move the 3y to the other side of the equation. We must remember that anything moving over the equal sign changes signs. ( - to + or + to -). so it would then be:
7y-3y-4=15
which then combining like terms (7y - 4y )would give us 4y-4=15
then we must move the -4 to the other side of the equation which would look like this:
4y= 15 +4 so then
4y=19
then because the 4 is multiplied by y, we must divide both sides of the equation by 4. ( what we do to one side of the equation we must do to the other)
so the equation would be 4y/4=19/4
simplifing we would get y=4 3/4 or 4.75

fallow this steps
7y-4=15+3y
+7y +7y step1 combine like terms (7y & 3y)
-4=15+10y
-15
-19=10y now you divide
-19\10=y

7y-3y-4=15+3y-3y
4y-4=15
4y-4+4=15+4
4y=19
y=19/4=4 3/4
