A true Atheist would consider it an insult to their intelligence to "swear on the Bible". They would find another way to let the court know that their word was honest and valid.

I would go through the motions of swearing on a bible and after the judge asks the question, I answer "so help me Isis, I do".

Yeah, it's kind of the law.
But in my opinion, swearing on the Bible is disrespectful.
This country has grown so far away from God, we should even disrepect his word, knowing that people are going to lie anyway.

I can only speak for myself - I haven't got my membership card for the Vast Athiest Conspiracy yet.

But I can go through the ritual if I need to. To me, the important part is that I'm promising to tell the truth, not that I'm doing it because some supernatural being is going to ruin my karma or any supposed afterlife if I don't tell the truth. I can say the Pledge of Allegience and use US currency too, even though they both have religious references.

In the court system where I work there is a special oath for people who are atheists.

Last ime I was in court. I appolgized the judge. I said " I'm sorry your honor I am an Atheist". He said "well then do you promis to tell me the truth , whole truth and nothing but the truth". I said "yes I do". He said "I can't ask for more than that".

Of course they could, it just wouldn't mean much. It would be the equivalent of swearing on the TV Guide.

Politicians are sworn in on bibles and look how honest and moral they are.
