So...why not BAN marriage all together?

Question

I asked earlier on the topic of gay marriage and one of the responses made me think....why don't they just ban marriage?

All the people I know:

My parents, in laws, siblings, friends, co-workers......all have issues with marriage involving:

Cheating
Dissagreements on petty things
Religion
Child rearing
URGE to BREED
Etc.

Now think of the troubles that would be eliminated if there was no such thing as marriage. I think the world would be a better place.

Marriage shouldn't be banned because TRUE love really does exist. A marriage takes work... It's like raising a child. The job is tough and it never ends but if there are two people that get together that give it everything they've got, they can make it work.

With the internet and everything, it's so hard for people to be faithful. People used to say when they were getting divorced that it was a mistake - just an accident. I think now, it's changed. It's a mistake when a marriage lasts... Somehow, by accident, they do something right and it just works. I know it's rare but, I believe in it.

You shouldn't give up on marriage. True love is an amazingly wonderful thing.

wrong, those SAME troubles would STILL exist ONLY under another name. Like the "in laws" would be the b/f's family the child custody and child support goes on now for shack ups. Now theyre comming up with new "community property " laws for shack ups seeing no one is protected when shack ups buy houses together etc.
The urge to breed doesnt go away with banning marriage.Lets ban sex before marriage make people have someone to sign for them before the age of 25 and they must have someone to vouch that they have dated the person at least a yr.

While your experience with marriage has not been the best., I still favor it. I have been married 20 years, have never cheated, had any issues with children, religion or the urge to breed. We usually resolve any disagreements with compromise and try to understand the other's point of view. Marriage is no always easy, but is worth keeping for those who take it seriously.

Because there is a word called LOVE, no am not going softy on the Marriage topic, but as long as people fall in love they will fall for marriage.

Been proposed to twice and engaged once, that's all I need to understand men suck.

Actually, in any instance, people who are meant to remain together usually do, for whatever their reasonings. It definately would waylay the legal pressures, make the religious factions absolutely nuts, and put alot of folks out of work--ie. divorce lawyers, wedding planners, bridal shops, etc.--oh well, there are sooo many other things to do, right? Fun thought!

Those issues they have with marriage are issues that should not be a part of... are issues that ARE NOT a part of marriage. Ban those issues and everything is good to go.

people do all those things because they dont care about no one but themselves. my grandparents and my parents have been together for a very long time. and they are very happy. there are people who never married and all their friends have disappeared in the wind and they are lonely living with like 40 cats and they become mean and bitter. while married couples are much happier (im talking about real married couples, not those that only lasted for 2 months and it ended because she wont do the dishes and he wont take out the garbage)
