I'm against pretending that there's a them.
Does that mean everything our leaders do in the fight is a good idea? Of course not. I don't have a problem with people putting Bush's feet to the fire over how to deal with the "them."
But pretending that there isn't an organized movement of Islamic fundamentalist terrorists who want the rest of the world either under Sharia law or in an ash heap seems foolish.

An us vs them mentality is prevalent in those with a narrow mind. They don't have the ability to see the world except in black and white. It goes well with the my way or the highway attitude we see so much of these days. It is the sort of thing that a totalitarian regime thrives on. That is a very simple way of seeing things. Democracy takes thought and thrives on difference of opinion and dissent. It is harder than totalitarianism.

Therein lies the problem with the world today. It is us or them, good or bad, right or wrong. The only thing, is that anyone who believes wholly in one thing, at the complete exclusion of anything or anyone else is guilty of extremism and hate.
Because no matter what ideology you come from or believe in, you will always think you are the right, good and just, and anything else is something to be overcome.
And thus stems the hatred in our world.

I'm against the notion that everyone is either for us or agin' us.
Considering that right now we're the most brutal and powerful terrorists on the planet, it's most unwise to make everyone chose.
No one would be for us in any way, were everyone forced to chose.
