Very, very bad idea to use straight distilled water in an aquarium. It contains none of the normal any needed minerals and as a result on potential problem will be the pH which will drop like a stone constantly. As a way of reducing pH and hardness in tap water, mixing distilled can be a good idea, but straight distilled will quickly lead to disaster.

Dont use distilled water. It contains zero hardness or trace elements. The lack of hardness means the water has no buffering and the pH wont stay stable. Generally you should use tap water with a water conditioner to neutralise any chlorine residue. If your tap water is really toxic you can use Reverse Osmosis filtered water, but you should add a product called RO Right to give the water some hardness. I guess you could use RO Right in distilled water too, but thats an expensive way to go. Ian

Not really. Distilled water should really never be used in a fish tank. Distilled water has a very low PH level. There is not much you can do to the water to bring up the PH level at this level (usually around a 5-5.5) Tap water is just fine for filling your tanks and ponds. Invest in a good dechlor / water conditioner instead.

I've only seen one or two articles in the past about using distilled water, and the article, which I don't have access too here at work was indicating that it's not a very good idea to use that. My guess would be as most tanks are planted to some extent, it would be lacking water nutrients to promote plant health, and probably having a high chlorine count in the water to prevent any contamination. If I find the article I'll pass it over to you.

As long as they are not salt water fish it is perfect. Tap water has lead and chlorine that is bad for fish. Distilled water wold be much better.

Altho it depends on the type of fish (and you can always ask at a local reputable pet store) , I would say no -- they might get sick because of lack of minerals.
