It's a simple diversion tactic and as American politics has repeatedly shown, it works!

Most politicians do not lie, although they may us symantics to tell the truth or facts. Most statistics and/or facts can be explained in a way to coincide with the defense of one's position, as former President Clinton did when he used a lawyerly avenure in one of his answers during his disposition in regards to Monica Lewinsky. His answer was it depends on how the word is is used. Which technically he was right but in the end he was just using symantics so as not to lie. Most politicians do not lie in trying to change the conversation so to speak on a sensitive issue, one they have small amount of experience on and/or one that they are still researching. I do not think they mislead to bloat thier ego but to change the conversation and not to take a quoted postion on.

Both man... its like if u get a city, then u realise u wanted a civic with a garrett, but then u end up buying a accord v6 and then trade it for a port and polish nsx..........
basically politicians bloat their ego and to divert and mislead ppl and make them even more confused and corner them, where they just backout and say" politicians suck" and then vote for them again thinking that if our country has no democracy we're doomed....

Politicians bend the truth for many reasons. The main reason is because people can't handle truth (reallity). Not only that, if you have a problem that affects our society and everyone is aware of it when it happens you would have people trying to fix it and at the same time you would have people trying to make it worse. So, that means that the problems we become aware of have been problems for years already sometimes decades. Basically, People are living in yesterday, politicians are living in today, and any one higher then that they're already in tomorrow.

Like the act itself, I think politicians' lies range from a variety of motivations, whether to cover up an initial disastrous mistake (be it an innocuous extra marital affair with an intern or a push to war based on failed intelligence, cowboy hubris and flawed reasoning) or to appeal to a potential constituency when one knows they have neither the will nor the power to make good on a promise.

Politics is business and is done keeping in mind profit and loss and not the public. They know like customer people have no choice. They can select brand not goods to be delivered.
