The French had earlier adopted a shorter work week to combat high unemployment. However, the French people are starting to realize that they are in a globalized economy. In order to remain competitive, I think they will have to show that they can compete in the world economy.

Will they accept the proposal for a longer work week? They will fight it as long as they can. Eventually, they will have to become more competitive.

Well, here in the US we don't have a maximum work week. An employer can require you to work 60 hours a week, if he wants. He just has to pay you 1 1/2 times your regular hourly rate for each hour over 40 an employee works in a week (except for exempt employees).

I like the idea of 35 hour work week, to tell you the truth.

You only live once, and when I look back at the last 20 years and see the number of hours I worked, I shake my head and ask myself "why?" Most of us do not benefit in the long run from long hours.

Maybe by working longer, they will have less time at home and less family stress. A recent study showed than the French hate themselves more than other people hate them. Maybe they will have more time at work to clear their head.

35 hours a week is waaaay too much. it's going to make alot of people unhappy, especially if he takes away the month of vacation a year.

but i guess it's still better than our 38 hours a week

Some people didn't want the shorter work week in the first place. However, they've gotten used to it.

Yes -- 35 hour workweeks are awful for the economy.

French people are 50% stupid and dumb people.
3% were definitely bribed by Sarkozy's people to win him in the election. Those 50% have voted for 'the Hitler in modern era' Sarkozy and now they are the one who have to pay the price for their repeatable mistake.
