I can see how people could get addicted to painkillers. I took Vicodin when I had my wisdom teeth pulled and that was some good stuff. Aside from ibuprofen, I don't have any strong painkillers in my house now though.

I always had to go to the doctor for just about anything. But when i was a kid i was given painkillers.

Yes. We didn't have insurance or the cash for a long time. When we finally got insurance, the doctors around here didn't accept it, or the deductible was so high, it didn't do any good.
