There is a camera called the nanny cam. You can find it at a security store. They even have a bear that has a camera in it. You can also set up a recording machine like a tape recorder or just get a camcorder. Set it up in a spot that would not be noticed. If you are too nervous about the babysitter. Maybe she is not the right one for you.

You know, besides spying, it is always a good idea to have a very honest discussion with your babysitter about their own opinions about child rearing, including asking about the really tough topics like,
1. What would you do if my daughter screamed for an hour straight and you had the worst headache and felt like you were really losing your temper?
2. What kind of punishments/rewards did you recieve as a child? What kind of discipline do you feel is appropriate? Will you always respect my ideas on child rearing, even if they conflict with your own?
3. What would you do if you found out my son/daughter was being abused or harmed?
4. Have you ever done anything to harm a child?
You would be surprised at how many people jsut never ask these questions of their caregivers. I was a nanny for 6 years for the same family and I am now a mother. I would not feel insulted if you asked me, I would feel like you wanted the absolute safest care of your children.
There are people who will care for your children with respect and love and dignity. I loved my "nanny kids" jsut as much as I love my own. I would still jump infront of a train for them- and I was never paid enough to do that- except with kid smiles and hugs :)

I'm a mother and a nanny, and all i can say is: that is so wrong!!! Either trust her or find someone else that you trust. It's wrong to spy on her, i don't care if she's in your home or not.
If you're concerned, then come home early on occasion, call during the day, ask a neighbour to have a playdate with the sitter and your baby, 'work-from-home' or 'call-in sick' 1 day so you can passively observe.

Hmm...Well I wouldn't do that.
Number One if she finds out, she could sue you and use all kinds of excuses, like you were watching her naked, or trying to get her when she went too the bathroom...and so on....
secondly, your child is not an "It"
If your not comfortable with leaving your child with this babysitter, then just don't do it. It's the only answer.
You could get yourself in a lot more trouble then what you think.
I suggest asking a family member you trust or a very close friend you trust too leave your child with, until your ready to leave your child with a babysitter you do not know. Maybe when the child can speak to you...

Talk to a surveillance company. I know there's something out there called a nany cam but I'm not sure how you'd get your hands on it.
The next thing I would ask is do you trust your own judgement in selecting a babysitter? Is she responsible? Does she have references? It might be worth it for you to ask her for references and follow up with those people just so you can feel better about leaving her alone with your child.
Good Luck!

I know how hard it is to trust someone with the most precious thing in your life. You should try the website I listed, they have cameras disguised as teddybears, clocks, ect. I think you are right and it is better to be safe than sorry.

Well you can place tiny cameras around the house but I think you might have to have her sign a waiver to allow herself to be recorded. I've also heard a lot of parents just let the babysitter know that they are being recorded on camera and not really record them, that way they can be the best with your baby for the fear of being watched.

Get hidden cameras. This is your child and if you are having questions then by all means get one now. If you haven't already done so, be sure to get references and spend some time with your sitter.

maybe you should get a little camera and place it in a teddy bear or put tiny camera in the babys room or living (where ever you think the baby sister will spend most of her time).
