i'd say a little bit of both to tell you the truth... Gas prices are killing the American people and the republicans(esp George W) doesn't seem to think that there is anything wrong with it.( mainly because, if you think about it, they aren't having to pay for the gas they use( as far as our reps, WE DO) and if the republican white house isn't going to do anything about it, then the American people will elect a democratic executive to do the job for them because frankly, the rebulicans have not done thier job of protecting the best interests of this country.

Gasoline isn't going to $4 and I think most Americans realize it's a supply/demand issue - it's no more a Republican conspiracy than is the increased price of any other commodity - and almost all commodities are up by a similar amount. Simply put, worldwide economic growth has been significant in the last 10 years, while supply of most resources hasn't increased fast enough.

The DIMS could take all the taxes off gasoline but won't.
How many times have we heard John Kerry and other Libs demand more taxes on gas.
They've stood in the way of drilling for oil in America or even building badly needed refineries.
Gas too high?
Blame the real culprits, the democrates.

Four-per-gallon gas would sound the death knell for large SUV's, and only businesses and wealthy celebs will bother buying large trucks. What is left of the US auto industry will wither and die, since they can't figure out how to make small cars profitably.
One good thing that could come out of that is a renewed determination to replace gas with domestically produced alcohol. If the backward Brazilians can do it, we can, too.

No; it will hurt those at the lower end of the pay scale first. People making big $$ will continue to fill their Hummers and Jaguars. It'll just mean buying a cheaper brand of champagne or wine.

Higher petroleum prices will translate into higher prices for consumer products, as they have to be transported.

People aren't really angry enough yet...

It might change the landscape of politics...but people will still pay the price. If gas was 15 dollars a gallon, I would probably buy it, because I'm fat and lazy and I'm not going to walk 5 miles...I'd rather drive.

Money is no longer an issue, has no real value. what ever one puts a price on is what another will pay. Gasoline I believe has not topped and will not top until the public has spent house, home and soul, then stranded by the road side begging for gas, to go???

At oil $75/bbl. shale oil becomes profitable. There is plenty of it and the only problem is the lag time to get into production. I fully expect the democrats to try to mess things up. I think and hope they will not succeed.

The best thing that could happen to the US would be for gasoline to go to $200 per gallon.

That would give us the incentive we need to develop other energy sources and increase the usage of public transportation.

Would businesses fail? You bet. All the short-sighted, greedy ones.
