I was discussing this with a guy friend of mine. I think they matter alot: in work, dating, friends, etc. He says that they get you in the door but that's it. That it's what you're made of that after that. I agree to a certain extent but there are many cute girls who manage to skate by and be considered charming when they only thing they have going for them is their looks. I'm not knocking it. I think this is fine and have on occasion done it myself. Thoughts?

Ahh..well yeah looks sure are really important...!! Isn't that why all the girls are mad about Bradd Pitt and all guys about Angelina Jolie...!!?? Yeah it sure really matters..every girl and a guy wants to have a good looking and presentable counterpart...but yes till some extent they do matter..but as the life proceeds..you need a person to talk too..not a statue to look up too..!! Every guy would love to have a simple looking girl with good character and brains ... rather than wasting more time with a great looking but rotten-from-inside girl...so if you need someone to share your long lasting relationship with...looks have to take a backseat...!!! Because..looks will fade pal..maybe after 30 yrs..but after that only the soul will remain...!!!

Looks can be many things. Presentation, and the way you come across does make an impact in a job interview for sure.
in Business there are expectations, yet it depends on the type of business you're in.
Socially ? well it depends who are you surrounded by ? shallowness or good company !
The best looks comes out when you are yourself ! natural.
and for every occasion, there is a look. So Enjoy life :)

in the grand scheme of things they don't matter. i have met so many attractive guys that have been complete jerks and it made them completely unattractive to me. and then there are guys i would never like but when i get to know them they become cute to me. looks fade, personality doesn't. they can get you in the door but you have to do something to keep yourself there. you can't skate by on looks. yes if you work in an industry where looks are important that is one thing. but not in everyday life. it doesn't happen as frequently as you think. looks can only get you so far.

It depends on what are you looking for "in the scheme of things".
Looks will give you an interview, but not job (unless the job IS the looks), a date, but not love or marriage, an acquaintances, but not friends. I agree with your friend.

You are right. As much as it sucks and is unfair, looks matter. People respond to good looking people and those people benefit accordingly.
