I have one of those kiddie swimming pools in my backyard, and it's pretty big. I'd like to know how to keep it clean and free of algae. Can you buy chemicals for them, the way you can for a regular pool? What about a filter or a pump of some sort? Any suggestions? I don't want to have to dump it out and clean it every week or two. That seems like a waste of water.

Walmart and Meijer both have chemicals for those little pools, plus they have scoopers and a little floating thing that holds your chemicals. When I had one I would get in every day and run in circles around it (its a great way to exercise) and then when it started a whirlpool I would get out (stand on something that isn't dirty) and then when all of the dirt settles in the middle you jump in and scoop it it. Its really easy, it takes a total of like 10 minutes, its a great work out and it keeps your pool clean. Good luck.

Small Plastic Pool

Changing the water is your best bet. It is doubtful that you will be able to find a small pump and filter that will be appropriate for such a small pool and even if you did it would be more expensive than just re-filling it once and awhile. Further, it's hard enough keeping the chemicals balanced just right in a full sized pool. It would be darned near impossible on such a small scale. Also, you really don't want the kiddos swimming around in highly chlorinated water.

As for the waste of water, if you use it to water your yard or wash the car it is not a waste.

Well I haven't heard about a pump for them but I know that there is a chemical that eats away algae that you can find at a Walmart. You will have to go to the swimming pool area to find it. If you can't find that then you will more than likely have to dump the pool about once a week and spray it out. I hope that I have helped.

Good Luck

You can definitely put chemicals in it like you do a "real" pool (just be careful in emptying it when you do - the chlorine or bromine can kill your grass). You should be able to get the chemicals at Walmart or similar. Also, they do have small pumps that can be put in these "temporary" pools. You should also get a plastic cover for when you aren't using the pool. You could splurge and get a "solar" cover that would warm the pool. :)

Good luck! :)

Tiny bit of bleach and run over the whole sides and bottom twice a week with one of those green scratchy pads. They kids can even do it, they'll love it. You really do need to change the water out every few weeks and you can move the pool at that time so you don't kill your grass.

Your best bet is frequent water changes. Adding chemicals to a small pool is dangerous (not enough water to adequately dilute the chemicals correctly).

They may offer some kind of filter, I would check with a local pool store for some help on that one.

Depending on what you use it for, it might be better to dump it. As we get into the summer months, mosquitos will be more likely to lay eggs in there is you leave it uncovered and with water. I would just dump it out and fill it as needed. I suppose you could cover it with plastic, but I don't know how much that would help.

that's what you will need to do with a kiddie pool .changing the water regularly and cleaning it out with bleach . See if you can get a bigger pool with a pump etc . then you do not have to clean the smaller one all the time.
even if you only dump bleach in it it's not enough, since the water needs to get filterd too!
