Elizabeth was intelligent and clever and was extremely well educated, becoming fluent in several languages - the classics and modern languages such as French and Italian. She was tolerant of other religions and views, and was a champion of the arts and sciences. She was what might be termed an 'enlightened monarch.' She was a powerful woman and set the standard for female aspirations for centuries to come - allowing women to believe that they could become the equals of men both intellectually and in matters of state. She was famous for being the 'Virgin Queen' and for defeating the Spanish Armada in 1588. Through her diplomatic skills, balancing the demands and wishes of so many powerful men around her, she managed to keep the peace in England for many decades and produced an outward-looking society that explored the globe and colonised new lands. She was Queen to not only Britain, but also has been Queen of many other nations. As various nations established different royal houses or became republic nations, she acceded her throne.
She is still Queen of the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and many other smaller nations.
She speaks fluent French and served in the military. I mean active service too. She helped various countries in many ways by being involved in foriegn affairs and negotiations with various diplomats.
She also helped the Red Cross, and many other Children's and Women's groups over the years bringing awarness to their causes.
She really did just as much as Diana did (most of it in her earlier years). People grieved over Diana and yet, they don't even have a clue of the woman that Diana was trying to be like.
She's even set aside some time to meet victims of the Virginia Tech shooting, after all...someone tried to shoot her in the early 80s and she just ducked a little bit and then continued on. She's always shown amazing courage and dedication to her role as perhaps the most powerful monach in the world.
You people should read some books. :)
