There is a fast growing number of "expatriates" who are spending most of their time in other countries.

Bill Gates and Donald Trump are leaving? Oprah is leaving? How sad. Most of them can afford to leave. With air fares what they are due to high fuel costs they are the only ones who can vacation outside the country. The rest of us are vacationing in the back yard or within a hundered miles of home because we can't afford the cost of gas. Poor people come for what few opportunities there are. Soon there will be more openings and opportunities for them but that is going to be after January 20, 2009.

They may spend time in other country's but they always come back. Even the wealthiest from other countries come here. As for the poor, where else in the world can they go to stand a chance at earning a living and not even need to be legal.

Rich people want to evade taxes, that's why you hear about all of those big companies moving their "headquarters" to bermuda or some other place, even though most everyone that works for them is in the U.S... and why rich people have bank accounts in the Caymans... etc. etc.
Acutally, if you're rich, you got it good. The more poor come into the country, the richer they become.

I have seen no evidence that the rich want to leave America. They usually have homes in many places. Don't mix up corporations, who are no longer truly American, with those you talk about.
There are millions without jobs, even in this country, and they are willing to take jobs, like in California, that criminals would not take!

If I could leave this country, I would, with your relative leading this country into a police state, and dictating what he is going to do, instead of listening to the people.....well, maybe the rich people leaving are the ones who see what is happening to this country and have decided they are getting out now, before the whole place falls. Unfortunately, those of us who now live by the skin of our teeth are stuck in this country and have to ride out the Bush term, hoping he leaves something behind for us to gather together and work on to restore this country to it's former state. You know like owning some of the businesses that are located in our country, having a job that will pay us enough to live on, trying to stay alive, while our food is no longer safe to eat, because we don't provide it anymore, we import it from countries who hate us. Disease ridden people are crossing our borders without any vacinations, American's must be innoculated with all manner of vacines, yet, they are allowed to just come in without this protection, which leaves us open to all this illness again, all of our work to stop disease, worth nothing, now. And just in case we might have been able to stop the spread, our healthcare is being taken away, or made so expensive that millions cannot afford to cover themselves or their children. Why, are the rich moving out, gee, that's a tough one. The poor moving in, they only have to work in our country for 5 years, they can then go back to their own country and live like rich people. I've worked for 33 years, and I live with just barely enough to feed my kids and pay my bills, I'll be working for another 30 years, and probably not be able to afford to live any longer than that. If I could, I'd move out, it's no longer possible to make it ahead, if your a citizen of the United States, only if your from another country, and if your from another country and poor, you are set in the United States.

Answer above, from "Frank" is accurate...corporate flight to other countries to avoid taxes and pay lower salaries...the rich can live luxurious lives in those same countries...lots more for their money.

Because The truly Rich in this country get Taxed higher than the middle class and poor, so they feel it necessary to take their money to another country that won't gouge them because of their financial situation.
