First, Bellingham would be closer than Seattle, as it's just 20 miles south of the border.

Second, rather than using the post office, you could use a packing company like UPS, the Mail Room, etc. They will charge you, but will give you a "REAL" address to use, which I find is easier for shipping items.

Third ... there is then the problem of getting the guitar over the border ... you may or may not have problems, but Canada Customs does look for people doing this. There are ways ... but Customs is on to most of them, just FYI. (we have had a few conversations with Canada Customs Agents about this, as we always have our already owned major electronics items stamped before crossing border either way when travelling).

As far as how much duty would be owed, it varies depending on the item, where it is manufactured, etc. Even if you call Canada Customs, they probably won't tell you the amount.

EDIT:
There most definitely IS duty on a guitar, esp a new one. It all depends on the item, cost, etc.

Visit the Postal Service website, where you can calculate shipping fees as well as the closest Post Office. Postal rates change May 14 -- increasing, of course -- so, you might want to ship by then!

Shipping is not that much for parcels from US to Canada. I don't think there's duty for one guitar (used or new). Please check with Canada Post to confirm.

The closest US post office across the border is at
