I have been working at this place for about a year. I started as customer service and then they moved me to programming after they found out I am a computer science major. I haven't really been looking for jobs elsewhere due to being busy with school and work. Is this a good amount? I live in the midwest.

I have a different opinion from the first 2 answerers...think about this: it's easier to get a job when you already have one. So, I'd say accept the offer your current employer made. It gives you time to look around for another job if you decide you want it and it will help pay off the college loans right now.

When I graduated from college in 1975, my first fulltime job paid less than $10k/year. My niece makes $35k right now with a Masters Degree. I should think you'd be very pleased with a $65k offer right out of school.

Yes, it's a very good amount. I agree with the previous answer though, look around before you actually commit to anything. If this company is offering 65k, imagine what another could possibly offer you.

That's a good starting salary for a programmer right out of college. Assuming it includes benefits, etc I would take it.

Of course, always keep your options open. You never know -- someone might come up with a similar offer in a company you'd like better.

It all comes down to personal preference. Does that seem like a good deal to YOU? That's really all that matters. Also, if you really enjoy what you're doing, then sure that sounds good for the field you are in. Check Salary.com and see what the average pay is for the field you're in, as well as your location. I have a feeling , what they offered you, is slightly above the average for that field.

starting just out of college yes that is on average much higher than most graduates make. shop around and do some research just to be sure you can't find yourself a better offer. talk to your school's career adivsor and get their opinion on it. thats what they get paid to do afterall.
