No, it'd be very foolish to spend that much. You could probably get a local English professor, teacher or English major to edit the book for less than 10% of that. Contact your local college or university.

It is not wise to spend ANY money editing/publishing a book. You should be paid by publishers, not the other way around. As for editing, find a critique group, online or in your region. Someone to give your constructive feedback.

IF your book is published, you'll be lucky to make a few thousand and then subtract all your expenses and it's even less. You'll never make up $10,000.

It is not wise to spend $10,000 for editing a book. I would do two things. I would find some sites with writer's forums such as www.writersweekly.com. I have used them and regularly check the questions and the responses. It is a great site. I would ask for input for recommendations for editing sites. There is much experience with the members of the site. It is free to join. It is always best to get information from others that have used editing services.

Unless you've written a two thousand page epic, someone is yanking your chain. It just happens to be the one with your wallet on it. No way should you spend that kind of dough on an editor, unless you wrote the whole thing in total disregard for grammar, it's unpunctuated, and with the spell checker turned off.

You should be able to get this done for considerably less.

$10,000 sounds a little steep to me, especially if you can save the fee by doing your own editing and getting friends to review it. I can't guarantee that your book will be a success, but you will have a better chance if you do book signings and radio interviews. It's all about getting your book in the public view.

1. I don't know. Seems like a lot to me.

2. Probably spend $10K on a swindling editor.
