The Royal Family is a symbol of their nation;to show them respect is to respect the people and the ruling government.
Some of the Royal family do have day jobs.
The Queen's immediate family members have many different charities and hospitals and other interests that they serve as chair-people,presidents,
members of the board.Prince Andrew not only served in the Navy,he now works for Britain's Trades Industry, touting British goods to the world.
Charles,as Prince of Wales earns his own money as a farmer and head of Duchy Industries;he sells organic foods, toiletries, gardening accessories. And Charles served in all branches of the military.
Anne works for Save the Children and has done so for many years.

And some of the Royal Family are actually paid;the Duke of Kent,Prince and Princess Michael of Kent,Princess Margaret's children, and many others have to have jobs because the Queen doesn't give them an allowance. So,unless they are independently wealthy, they must work.

Its the most oldest Aristrocratic family in Europe. It's history goes far far back. The Royals do work each in it's capacity. Next to there many charity organizations in which the help and assist the English people.
Look at the members of the British house, each of them hold
respectable jobs and earn the money they need to survive.
Prince Andrew's years in the military earned him a pay check.
Prince Charles taking care of his own land, farming etc.
Prince Edward, having his own movie and film company.

The time has changed and the English monarchy is becoming more and more modern.

They aren't. They do all of the ceremonial stuff that the government doesn't have the time or patience to do and they do it with style and grace. Not to mention that by giving their names to various charities and organizations they lend an air of credibility and help to raise funds for them. They do have jobs, mostly done behind the scenes, there is no such thing as a free lunch for anyone & they better than most people in ther social circle know and understand this.

Apparently they don't do sh*t. They are just people who are born with silver spoons in their mouths, and that means they deserve to be worshipped...whatever.
