I have braces and am going in for an MRI on my knee tomorrow. Can I recieve an MRI? Because my braces are made out of metal. Does it not matter because it is on my knee not my head? Does anyone know the answer to this?

You will not have any problems. If you were having a brain MRI, the braces might cause an artifact on the images. This means that the images might be a bit distorted. Since your MRI will be on your knee, your images will be unaffected. Wearing braces does not cause you injury or discomfort.

"Braces will not hurt the machine or mess up the pictures. If you are having a MRI of your head, then the pictures may look a little blurry, but this is ok. If you are still wondering about it, you can talk with your doctor."

"MRI uses strong magnets, so you will be asked to remove your watch, jewelry, and other metal objects..... Braces and fillings normally are not a problem."

You're fine. The metal only distorts the image when it is on the same area as the metal.

I had an MRI on my neck (which has a metal plate and screws in it) and the MRI came out with minimal distortion.

If your head is likely to enter the MRI tunnel, they may ask you to remove them. Better phone and check with the technician.

Your braces will not effect your MR of the knee and are safe.
