I used to LOVE Charles Dickens when I was young (which was some 20 years back :-)
I share David Copperfield as one of my favourites with you, its considered Dickens best by many, but, I think i would prefer Great Expectations myself, because I was Pip's age when I read it (confused early teens :-)...and was infatuated with a pretty girl while I was a bit Gawky myself...ha ha...those were sweet days...thanks for reminding me of them

"Bleak House" would probably be my favorite. The characters were extremely well developed. You start thinking that you really know the people you're reading about. If you're a person who cries when reading books, this one will definitely make you cry. But on the other hand, it will also make you laugh out loud. Not to mention, the plot line was amazing. It takes so many twists and turns, you never know what to expect. I also love how it's told. It's half narrated by an unknown narrator, and half by Esther (One of the main characters). The narrator's view is like a normal book. He tells things that happen in different cities at the same time and also sort of knows peoples thoughts (like most books that aren't first person). Esther's view is like a real person. Her half of the narration is written like a journal or diary. I love every book I've ever read by Charles Dickens (though "Hard Times" would probably be my least favorite), but "Bleak House" takes the proverbial cake.

Oliver Twist and David Copperfield are very good. I also like A Christmas Carol and Great Expectations. all of his novels are good representations of how the poor lived in that time and place.

I don't like Charles Dickens, but it took me 8 readings of Great Expectations to appreciate it as one of English Literature's most exquisite novels.

I like his later novels- the satire gets a little tastier in its bitterness, a little sharper in its wit. Bleak House is my favorite. Its so intricate in its design, the style of narration is innovative, and the landscapes/peoplescapes are inescapably alluring. Little Dorrit also has a soft spot in my heart. It seems to be deliberately unintelligible in its plotting and structure, even at times in its prose. Dickens was having great fun with his style- it makes me wish I could be a better writer.
