The only thing you can take for a cold is Sudafed 6 hour stuff, and for a sore throat you can have sucrets or chlora-septic spray and thats just about it; also you can have cough drops with no alcohol in them!

Unfortunately, there is not a great consensus between doctors about what is safe during pregnancy. The best advice is to call your practitioner and ask him/her. However, sudafed, robitussin regular (NOT DM) and tylenol are generally on the "safe" list for pregnant women. Of course if you have elevated blood pressure, you cannot take either of the first two, only tylenol. (Yet another good reason to ask your doc). Gargling warm salt water can help with a sore throat and drinking plenty of fluids and getting lots of rest are important too. Hang in there .. being sick sucks, but being preggo and sick is the worst!

If it's a cold it'll pass on its own. You don't need antibiotics, because they only work on bacterial infections, a cold is a virus. The gargling is just to soothe your throught, it doesn't do anything to get rid of the cold. Just do things to help your comfort, it will pass. Tea with honey, a humidifier to keep the air moist, or boil water and breathe in some of the steam, after you remove it from the stove, carefully. Suck on a lozenge that is all natural. Get lots of rest. Eating spicy food can clear your sinuses a bit, it doesn't even have to be that spicy. Garlic and honey have natural germ fighting properties. I find soda feels good on a sore throught. I don't normally drink soda, but once in a while is probably okay. If you don't like soda, you could try Perrier which is a naturally carbonated spring water. The taste is like club soda kind of. I like it, but most people don't.

Rest, rest, rest. It's really the only thing that is going to get you better when you're pregnant. I have had colds with both pregnancies, and it's terrible. For your sore throat, you can use Cepecol. It comes in a throat spray or lozenge. They are pretty strong, but it will numb your throat so you don't feel the pain. You can also suck on popsicles too to help ease your sore throat. I have always found that drinking lots of water helps to flush the junk out of your system faster too. Viruses have to run their course, so there really isn't anything you can take to treat it. You can only treat the symptoms. Take care.

Well unfortunately when you get pregnant, I am 28 weeks today, you really don't have much choice when it comes to medicines you can take for the common cold. I have had to suffer through it myself a few weeks back.
If it gets really bad my doctor told me that I could take Sudafed, Robitussen, or Tylenol. But I chose to drink more fluids, get plenty of rest, take Vitamin C, and I was fine. Make sure with your doctor first, I am not sure if you have an issues regarding your pregnancy that would hinder you from taking these medicines.

Hot mint tea. It's good for you and the baby, and it will help with the sore throat. Brew the tea, and let it steep for about 20 mins. Breathe the steam between sips, and it'll help with congestion, too. Vicks VapoRub works well on congestion too, pregnant or not.
Plenty of rest isn't a bad idea, either. You need energy to fight the cold, and deal with the stresses of pregnacy.
Good luck and I hope that helps. And feel better soon, sweetie.

Nothing get's rid of the common cold except time. If it lasts more than a few days I would head back to the doctor though. Being pregnant your immune system should actually be on high alert and it shouldn't take too long to kick a cold.

I have 3 kids, one of the things I hated more about my wife's pregnancies was that everybody was:
a) An expert
b) Heard a good solution
c) Had an opinion
NEVER take anything not even house remedies before asking your doctor.
