78F is a nice comfortable temperature for most African cichlids. Some do like it a bit warmer, but you wouldn't go wrong holding the tank at that teperature.

78-82 degrees is optimal. The key is making sure it is stable through out the day with very little variation. Good Luck!

my boyfriend has a bunch of africans.....it's a 46 gal. half salt/half fresh tank. he keeps it in the mid 80s...usually 86 or so. and this seems to work since most of his fish have lived quite a long time....maybe 5 yrs or more....and they are quite beautiful!

that's great! i had a tank full of jack dempsey's, {african's too} and i kept it between 78-84... but they bred. that's apparently a good breeding temp.. and trust me, you don't want them to breed. they take over your tank.
i've also had an F1 frontosa, and he liked the tank between 76-82. so you're good.
