I like Ortho Weed B Gone Max Concentrate. You apply it with the Ortho Sprayer hooked up to your hose. Its a little slower acting than Scotts Turf Builder Plus II with weed control. Whats nice about it is that you can put it down at any time as long as its not going to rain within the next 2 hours. I believe that the wait time for pets to be on the treated area is about 12 hours. Its a little toxic but will not burn their paws like Scotts Turfbuilder will. So you can choose when to put it down and then maybe time it for an over night where the 12 hours will have passed before pup needs to go. Check it out at your local home center or hardware store and read the label.

Most weed killers have a warning on the label denoting the time span that children and pets should not be allowed onto the surface treated. You will need to find one that allows this in a shorter duration of time.
