I'm curious. If Obama or Clinton wins the 2008 election, will you lead by example and show us how to treat a President with respect even when you disagree with his/her policies, or will you resort to the name-calling and incessant criticism you find so intolerable with regard to Bush?

wizjp: No, I'm asking them to live up to their expectations of others. I don't care what anyone has to say about any President, personally. We have freedom of speech in this country. But I'm not the wingnut running around equating patriotism with Bush-worship, either.

No, they only demand respect for those candidates that think like themselves.

I guess that would all depend on just how the next president -- from whichever party -- performs, don't you think?

Think of just 6 years ago -- shortly after 9/11. Wow, G.W. Bush's ratings could not have been higher -- from liberal or conservative -- because he performed superbly under trying circumstances.

Since then, he has stumbled. And of course, the Democrats/Liberals are outraged that such a "buffoon" could have defeated their "best and brightest" -- TWICE.

I did not like Bill Clinton from the very moment he announced his candidacy. Clinton was (and still is) a pathological liar, womanizer, unfaithful to his many vows and promises, and had participated in a wide variety of activities I personally find utterly disgraceful. And that was BEFORE he got elected. But I gave him a chance -- after all, the '92 election was G.H.W. Bush's to win or lose, and Bush choked.

I was willing to give "Slick Willie" a chance -- and he failed to even meet the despicably low expectations I had set for him.

Just remember, though -- the conservative side didn't start this pissing contest. This has been with us since Nixon and Watergate, and the quid-pro-quo has just gotten to be more and more obnoxious and pathological over the ensuing 40 years. I don't see it getting better any time soon, either, because neither major party has a candidate, right now, that's worth a fart in a paper bag.

Republicons are so pathetic. You all say that to disagree with the president is unpatriotic. You even accuse people of being traitors if they don't share YOUR view. But when the table is flipped, you all do exactly what you criticize everyone for. So in your words, why do you hate America?

Hypocrisy is the Republican way. Also to lie and cheat.

The sad thing is, Bush is BY FAR one of the worst presidents ever. From his ties to Enron, Haliburton, the mistaken war(oops), his handling of the 9/11 commission. Everything has been a complete failure, yet Cons don't see it. Trust me when I say, if the new Dem president is half as bad as Bush, you'll hear my criticism.

So in other words: Practice what you preach. Lead by example. Judging by the responses in the thread, you all are hypocrites............we knew it all along anyway.

It's really a matter of the individual, rather than the party line. If Larry the Cable Guy somehow became president, I am sure he would receive less respect than, say, Zombie Martin Luther King.

That said, there's enough hypocrisy to go around.

A little late to expect that we should give a democratic president anything less than what you liberals have given a Republican President. . The liberal use of slander and disrespect that the current President has been given, leaves little doubt that there will be a backlash if a Democrat comes to office. You do not have to agree or like him , but, respect for the man and the office was so little asked of you and as usual you failed to deliver.

This is silly. The president - any president - is a servant of the people. He serves at the pleasure of the people. He deserves as much respcet as he has earned. The president has to earn the respect of the people, not the other way around. Demanding respect is just plain stupid - respect must be earned.

I WILL SHOW EITHER OF THEM THE SAME RESPECT THE LIBERALS HAVE SHOWN PRESIDENT BUSH NONE.
BOTH CLINTON & OBAMA COME ACROSS AS THE SAME AS ROYAL DID IN FRANCE. SO IF EITHER OF THEM WIN LET THE CRITICISM BEGIN.

only if the drive by media shows a democrat the same lack of respect that they have shown the GOP. When that happens I will show some respect.

Why should they, it's not like the left has been anything but venomous toward Bush. If I was a Repub I would spit in their face for openers and let things go from there. Liberals have set the tone for such trash, if they get the WH in 08 better be able to take it.

Country is waking up to the Democrats inability to accomplish anything other than point fingers and lay blame.. true to their "plan" there have been NO changes... The Dem's squeaked by in the 06' election.. People which sat back to see what they would accomplish will now get out and vote Republican... Dem's won't win.

We will demand a recount - claim the election was fixed - then call for impeachment when no crimes have been committed. Next we will agree w/ the president - then claim we were misled. Sound familiar?
