I have the above car and upon starting the engine it makes a dry, whirring noise, like tappets clicking. It's a new model and it only happens occasionally, for about five seconds, any ideas? Or does anyone have this problem too?

If it is parked on a slope it could be the oil isnt reaching the engine immediately ,until it is pumped through .I wouldnt worry

DON'T spin the engine with the HT disconnected. With nowhere for the sparks to go you may damage the coils. Also be careful with the ignition, the electronics develop lethal voltages.
I suspect the oil filter has a poor non-return valve in it that isn't always stopping the oil draining out of the oilways, so sometimes the valve gear runs a bit dry at start-up. Needs fixing if you want the ultimate life span in the engine.

It sounds like it takes a few seconds for the oil to reach the camshaft and tappets. To check this out ,disconect the H T lead and turn the engine over to pump the oil up reconnect the lead and start the car if the noise is not there then thats what it is
