As to recognizable people who make a difference I would have to give it to Jimmy Carter through Habitats for Humanity.
As to making a difference in how the world thinks I would say Bill Clinton although his impact is diminished by his wife's ambitions.
Al Gore is not doing bad but his visibility does not hide his lack of originality.
