All of Europe is INCREDIBLY liberal compared to the US. Every country in Europe has subsidised or free healthcare, much higher taxes (with a few small exceptions) and a more governmet controlled economy. That said I'd hardly call France a liberal (in the US sense of the word) country - they've been conservative since the socialist president Mitterrand left office in 1995. I don't see any particular reason for democrats to be worried - it doesn't really change the situation for them much.

I think the problems of America are not very transferable to the problems of France. However, if the Conservative Party in France is anything like the Neo-Cons in the Republican Party, then look out any small unarmed Country in the world because the French my be about to follow in the foot steps of the Republican Party in America under the leadership of King George W. Bush, thank God, The Last!

No, besides what everyone else has said about what being a "conservative" in France means, you have to also look at their country's situation. Economically, they are a mess and socially, they're scared because of the riots that happened. It's just a very different environment from America.

Not really, French conservatism is akin to liberalism in our country, so the correlation doesn't fit. The new guy is firmly against the Iraq War for instance. Even if it did why should Democrats be concerned? Are the French coming over to vote in our elections?

No, for two reasons. One is that France is not currently involved in any major US foreign policy. The other is that what happens in France doesn't necessarily affect whats happening in the US

Why? Will they be trying to dictate to us that we need to implement a socialist government? Much like Cheney tried to tell Russia they must move toward a democracy.

I don't think so. The election results in France have very little to do with election results in the United States.

No, since when did France EVER pose a threat? Who cares what they do, as long as they do it THERE. And if they get out of hand, we'll just have to be like, "Dont make us come over there France." And France will be like, "Joan is gone, we dont stand a chance against anyone, ever...we'd better be quiet and just eat our pastries."

Not at all. What happens in France stays in France. The fact that the Republicans were booted out of Congress is more important.

He's not a real conservative--just a racist bigot. The French will rue the day they put him in office.

And--that has nothing to do with American politics.
