No it means waiting until someone wraps his strong safe arms around you...

I wouldn't say it's turning away from the fact. I would say it's more trying not to show that you are hurt. Something can really upset you but you don't want to cry in front of everyone at the moment. That would be considered holding back tears. :-)

Sometime it's you're embarrassed to cry and let your feeling show, some times you have misinterpeted the "facts" and are hurt by a situation that is not real. If another person or their actions have brought on tears, please talk things out and see if things can be put in order. Don't be or stay sad. Don't ever be overwhelmed. Find answers.
Also tears can just show you haw deep your feeling really are.

Holding back the Years, I love that song by Simply Red! That red headed white boy sings with more soul than the law allows :)

No, i think holding back tears is more about trying to be strong by not letting your emotions show and just bottling them all inside instead....

I would say it would be more like self control. Most times you won't want people to realize how deeply you feel something. Or you don't want someone to know how badly they have hurt you. You can always cry in private later. I definitely wouldn't call it running away.

Some people believe that crying is a sign of weakness (i don't believe it is) so by holding back tears they're trying not to show you that they care so much or they're afraid of being perceived as weak.

No, its just when you don't want your emotions to show at that time. It doesn't necessarliy mean running from the fact. Some people don't feel comfortable crying in public.

I think so, I know alot of my friends would disagree. I think that when one wants to cry or has that feeling of wanting to cry that we should just let it happen. I think that alot of people are afraid of what others will think/or others reactions to them crying. I try to hold back tears because im afraid to let anyone know that im sad/upset.

Not necessarily - only if you are letting holding back the tears stop you dealing from what is bothering you and are not confronting the problem.
Hope you are OK :-)
