I've noticed that more and more of the questions, and in turn answers, are becoming attacks against individual people and against the opposing political party. I myself am guilty of snapping and insulting people, but only when my party is attacked. Why must we keep fighting?

This forum could be best described as a political mud wrestling pit, and you can easily recognize the dirtiest players. They rarely post anything mature or intelligent. Maybe 10% of the postings here are on an adult level. The rest is all rants and slurs.
This place is to mature, rational debate like the WWE is to Olympic wrestling.
Don't look for the quality in this category to improve any time soon.
Yahoo opened up a puzzle box of horrors (see the movie Hellraiser) when they started this Answers thing.
It's beyond their ability to moderate or control.

Maybe part of the problem is that we have become so conditioned to thinking that there are only two sides, two parties, two opposing viewpoints, that we tend to identify with one or the other. Rather than undertaking the rather difficult work of intelligently forming our own opinions and defending them articulately, we find it easier to gravitate towards whichever party we think gets most of it kind of right enough.
Worse still is the tendency you mention of taking opposition past the political to the personal, and associating specific supposed negative personal traits with the simple fact of political disagreement. This is what makes it hard to find consensus.
Rather than having to formulate and submit actual proposals and holding debate on the relative likelihood and benefit of various possible outcomes, lazy thinkers find it much easier to say "You want to let our enemies win". Once personally insulted (or twice, or more) anybody but the Dalai Lama is going to be unwilling to enter into debate and negotiations in good faith.

Most of the people on here have no idea how to develop or support a logical argument. Therefore, they need one party or another to tell them exactly what to believe. Also, since they can't argue or back up their own points of view, they can only attack other points of view and personally attack those who have a different point of view.

Ever watch the Brittish Parliament go at it?
At the end of the day we are all Americans. Just some of us need to remember our roots in individualism, responsibility, liberty, etc.
It is a pleasure to send out the spirited and lively reminders!
And... think about it ... here we are, sometimes at each others throats tossing our ideas at each other like rocks.
And ... we can because we are FREE!

For years the lieberal bedwetting moonbats attacked Conservatives at will with no response from them expected or returned.
But after decades of being attacked by lieberal moonbats Republicans are starting to fight back and lieberal bedwetters can't handle it.
Republicans finally got the message that evil prevails unless good men stand up to it. We're now starting to stand against the evil.

it doesn't mean that they don't exist, but there seem to be less of them.
