Why do some people equate housewives with prostitutes?

The equation does not make sense.
Prostitute have a much better deal. They live glamorous lives, dress and make-up, get new customers every day and earn a lot of money. They spend lavishly and enjoy themselves. They can afford a lot of luxury.
The housewife is dressed in rags, lives a boring life, with just one old, ugly and bald husband. Has less money to spend and sometimes has to count the cents, while shopping. Even the bare necessities sometimes becomes a luxury for them.

Because they are idiots. I am a housewife and author. I take care of the home while my husband goes to school. We go out to the grocery store or to the mall or the park on some weekends. My husband pays the bills and if I need something or want some money my husband makes sure he gets something that I want. I also will be a stay at home mom when I have children. As for the poster who said wives don't enjoy sex that is completly dumb.

Because they are ignorant of the value of a housewife and do not realize how many important services they provide to their home and family.

Women that want to devote themselves to home and family are doing a very noble and unselfish thing. It is a job that employs many skills; among them are creativity, intelligence managerial and organizational skills and more. But it is not an easy job. If the need for a second income is not an issue and a woman chooses to be a stay at home that is her right.

Why shouldn't she be free to choose this? It was recently reported that the services a full time housewife provides would warrant a salary in excess of $138K. Housewives deserve more esteem from our culture than we have given them.

prostitutes are professional, but housewives are not professional, they do it as in need of love. if any1 equate then it is shameful act for our culture.

My wife was a stay at home mom as well. She tried working and did not like it so WE decided we could do with a pinch less and her stay home. If she is having sex with me only for money then she definitely should have been an actress instead. I have no doubt in my mind that she enjoys it out of love and obviously the money doesn't matter.

Ignorance, as a stay at home Mom it is a labor of love and not one for payment. The pay stinks.....but the benefits are wonderful. My biggest guess is that others view housewives as women who have sold themselves to their husband. That just isn't the case.

I am not sure why some people equate housewives with prostitutes, but I am here to tell you, that Prostitutes have it better than wives do. Why? I will tell you why:

Wives:
cook, clean, do laundry, pay bills, run errands, take care of the kids, home repairs, auto repairs, yard work, disagreements at stores when over charged, wipe the husband's nose and rear-end and cater to his every whim while he is sick and his attitude makes a two year old seem more adult like every day. Not to mention, wives also have to jump into the "three second" clothing, and play circus, pretend to enjoy herself for two to ten seconds, and then finally gets to relax while the ring leader of the one man circus rolls over and goes to sleep:) NO the wife does not get paid, usually not even a thank you does she hear.

Prostitutes:
Only have to put up with them for a short period of time, two to ten seconds, jump into or out of the "three second" clothing, pretend to enjoy themselves, and relax and count her earnings after two to ten seconds, while the ring leader of the one man circus rolls over and goes to sleep. Man, she has it easy.

I am not a disgruntled wife, just one with an eccentric sense of humor:):):)

I'm a stay at home mom and I've heard the housewife/prostitute comparison before. I'm guessing it is because people assume that the only contribution, if you can call it that, the wife makes to the marriage is sex. That is completely ignoring the fact that she most likely does all of the shopping, all of the cooking, all of the cleaning, and does all of the childcare (if there are kids). It also assumes that women don't have sex drives, and only give sex to their husbands to make them happy. I find the whole notion to be wrong. For one thing, a stay at home mom serves many important roles for her family. For another, sex is supposed to be for both partners, not something a wife uses as a tool to please a husband for financial security.
