I used to engage in spirited debates with a use named 'Hyperion Monk' . We disagreed on most issues but we kept it civil through email . I'm glad I did , because about a month ago, I got an email from his son telling me that he died and they'd no longer be using that email . Even though I disagreed with him, I'm glad I didn't resort to hateful rhetoric. . . . . just imagine if his son saw an email from me or you that was hateful. . . and saw it at the time of his death !! How bad would you feel then ?

Every generation.. .blames the one before
And all of their frustrations.. . come beating at your door
I know that I'm a prisoner to all my father held so dear
I know that I'm a hostage.. to all his hopes and fears
I just wish I could've told him. . . In The Living Years

Say it loud. . . Say it clear. .. You can lis-ten as well as you hear
It's too late. . . when we die. . . to ad-mit we don't see eye to eye

Crumpled bits of paper.. filled with imperfect thought
Stilted conversations. . . I'm afraid that's all we got
You say you just don't see it. . He says it's perfect sense
you just can't get agreement.. in this present tense
We all talk a different language. . . .In De-fence

Say it loud, say it clear. . . you can lis-ten as well as you hear
It's too late. . . . when we die. . .
To ad-mit we don't see eye to eye

So we open up a quarrel. . . between the present and the past .
We only sacrifice the future.. . . it's the bitterness that lasts
So don't yield to the fortunes, you sometimes see as fate
You may have a new perspective on a different day
And if you don't give up. . . and don't give in. . . you just may be OK

Say it loud, say it clear, you can lis-ten as well as you hear .
It's too late (it's too late)
When we die (oh when we die)
To ad-mit we don't see eye to eye !!!!

I do realize what you are saying but some of these misled individuals are destroying others through the people they support. Whether you realize it or not these are very serious times and sometimes strong language is warranted. People think that its use is never useful but they are wrong. Strong language might turn off the people it is directed at but it can inspire those of similar views to stick up for them. It can also persuade the people to see it that maybe their view is destructive. I do realize you point that their feelings might get hurt but some people don't realize that their views and support can destroy other peoples lives. For example if you look at my history you will realize that I chew out people that hate Bush. My reason for doing so is that their views and lack of support for our president during a time of war are probably responsible for more American deaths overseas than that of the actual terrorists. I could get into a little Sun Tzu to tell you why but it would take too long. I realize that my view is a little harsh but sometimes that is what is takes to prevent the occurrence of certain atrocities and mass murders.

Okay...I must first say that I love that song. Mike and the Mechanics. Brings back memories. I was like, 6 or something when it came out - loved it then and still love it now.
That tie in SO well w/ your point. I wish people would use the Golden Rule on here a bit more. Do unto (I guess and say unto) others....
Life is so short. You never know what will happen tomorrow or even in the next few hours. Do you want the last words you say to someone to be hateful? Would you want to hear hateful words before you depart from this life?
I think we'd all answer no on that one. I hope a lot more people read this and start spreading kindness and respect around here.
Thank you for posting this!

Oh there are times I want very much to just blast at someone. They have been so rude, mean and not stating any fact but what does it get me? Nothing except maybe a temporary calm and then the realization that I have lowered myself to that level. It is one thing to argue an opinion with basis at the top of your lungs against someone who disagrees with you and argues back at the top of theirs. As long as it never gets into a name calling event. You may never change their mind but might give them another perspective to think about. Opinions are just that and why we are all so different in little and big ways. Words cannot be taken back and written words remain around even longer.

My family loves each other, understands each other, but if someone crosses a line - we sternly voice where that line has been crossed and our opinion of it. Mom & I have gotten into several loud arguments concerning issues about I should or should not be doing concerning my children. I respect her opinion, I may not use it, but I do not insult her. We still can be close and know that we have these differences. LOVE the song.

That's a really good question. It's very thought-provoking. When we get bogged down in our partisanship and become defensive for whatever reason, it's easy to lose sight of the fact that the other person is a human being.

Not to change the subject or anything, but I really like the song "The Living Years". A few years ago I went to a Ringo Starr concert, where he performed with his All Starr Band. The other members at the time were Paul Carrick, Colin Hay, John Waite, and Sheila E. Paul Carrick did a really good performance of "The Living Years".

What I even have observed is they're all from a "specific RACE" who proceed to act like wild beastly jungle bunnies. do you comprehend what that race is? All down by history; an identical "type" of racist slobs. Get my waft now?? It won't end until eventually Armageddon... then all the racist puke grime slobs would be destroyed completely and the "stable" human beings will very own the earth. Psalms 37: 8 - 11 Racist slobs heavily isn't around lots longer, and look how damned long it took for a Black guy to become president of his very own united states? little doubt had lots to do with the mentally challenged racist slobs I even have been pointing out for the time of my positioned up. great element and thank you for being formidable adequate to deliver it to the leading part. Take care..

Y!A is only a forum which is mainly based on opinions. That's all it is. In the measure of life's priorities it is miniscule compared to the human element we all share. That is life itself. We have to go beyond the rancor of divisional politics and other divisions in society because in a free society there will be differences of opinion. We have to respect all rights of expression, whether we disagree or not. The manner in which we give thumbs up or thumbs down to these responses is nothing compared to the lives behind the thumbnail images. That's what is most important to me.

Good point!

For some reason I have been thinking about mortality more than usual lately. No matter how long people live, I would suspect that almost everyone feels they are dying too soon. I can't imagine the absolute arrogance of the world to go on just fine without me!

We all have less time than we think. We have to make good use of it.

PS I remember some famous quote to the effect that most people who would like to have eternal life can't find anything interesting to do on a rainy Sunday afternoon!

I think they don't realize the harm they cause! I think many people just answer in a vacuum, not really thinking of the consequences of their actions. They remind me of a car that is speeding through without regard for other drivers safety. They may weave in and out of traffic and be safe and yet never know that they caused accidents in their wake! Maybe people have even died! But they would never know because they simply satisfied their own agenda and did not care about the consequences. I enjoyed your poem......

Some Posters just bring out the acid from my tongue. That is the main reason I seldom answer questions out of my contact list. All my contacts are decent people, but there are some real pieces of work out there, and I see no reason to be "nice". As I often say to my lovely Wifekins, "Nice isn't in my Job Description".
Truthfulness
Mercy
Compassion
But Not Niceness ! Esp. for hateful Trolls !!
Be Blessed in Christ Jesus !

But...I inslut people in my family all the time.

Just kidding. You make a good point.
Sometimes the internet makes it too easy to say things that are out of line. I usually am a "counter-puncher" though.
I received a distinctly nasty e-mail from a guy who wailed on me for 2 paragraphs for spelling "Pelosi" wrong!

I have tried to avoid hateful responses, but I have sometimes resorted to sarcasm and "humorous" comments. I have several funny favorites. I have on a couple of occasions been tongue lashed with vile language and insults. I seldom to respond to this kind of childish ranting.
Did you write the poem? If so, you are pretty good! I am impressed
(I do a little versifying myself from time to time).
