I don't remember anybody ever waiting until 1/2 way through a season to decide if he's going to play or not. Especially not more than once. He's worse than Michael Jordan was after his first "Retirement." And how does he get so much money???...He'll be making about 1 million/start....if he makes the amount of starts projected for him.

He's a 300 game winner, a future Hall-of-Famer, and the Yankees are willing to throw money at anything that can pitch at this point. He's a living legend and a "gun for hire", he'll pitch if they give him a chance to win.

If this was Babe Ruth or Cy Young getting the treatment, would you be asking the same question?

No. Here's why...

Roger Clemens is the modern day icon. His career has spanned over 3 decades (80's, 90's & 00's in which he was one of the preeminent MLB pitchers.

His career stat line: 348-178, 3.10 ERA, 4604 K's...oh yeah, 7 Cy Young awards (2 more than any other pitcher).

I heard someone use the line, "A-Rod couldn't do this." A-Rod isn't an all-time icon. He can do it when he's been playing for 22 years and still playing strong into his 40's.

Do I agree with the amount of money they're paying him? NO! Do I think he should be treated special? Yes!

Just to name a few: Ted Williams, Babe Ruth, Cy Young, Cal Ripken Jr, Hank Aaron, Ty Cobb - If these guys did what Roger is doing, no one would complain.

Roger get the complaint because we are currently watching him play...People dont recognize when they're in the presence of greatness...You never know what you had until you lose it. 25 years from now, you'll be telling your grandkids you watched him play.

Because he is Roger Clemens and he can do whatever he wants. He will be one of the most dominant pitchers when he get's back to the Majors in a few weeks. He has a lot of innings on his arm, and I am sure his arm could not handle a whole season at this point in his life and career. As far as the $1 million per start...that is probably why the Yankees won the bidding battle for him, because they can overspend on a player at any time. Either way...Clemens can still be the best pitcher in the game.

no person is being undemanding on Clemens; i could say he has been getting raked over the coals fantastically not undemanding as of previous due. I agree that he's by potential of no potential an "American Hero". the reason the Republicans are sticking up for him is this -- keep in mind that Clemens is from Texas, and that he's acquaintances with George W. Bush. for this reason McNamee's criminal expert stated that Bush could probable pardon Clemens of any wrongdoing.

Not sure if Clemens has done streroids, but if you google it there is a lot of websites that talk about it in regards to the Grimsley arrest who supposedly stated Clemens also took steroids.

Clemens will be the biggest disappointment for the Yankees since Randy Johnson.

This year it's only 1/3 of a season. He's laughing all the way to the bank. What other idiots would pay him 10-15 thousand dollars per pitch? Maybe he waits until the steroids are out of his system before he signs. I guess some years it takes longer than others.

He receives it because he asks for it, and he's a good enough pitcher that teams are willing to accommodate him. There are several other players that could probably get away with it but don't try to.
