As a seller on ebay I can understand where you are coming from.
There are 2 ways a new seller can sell on ebay. Once you are registered and that includes registering a credit card with eBay, You can use their website selling tool . It is located at the top of the home page.

Click on Sell and you will see a drop down list . Click on -- Sell an Item. It will ask what you are selling , type that in and it will come up with category suggestions . Use one they suggest and then proceed to follow directions . They walk you through it . I think the hardest part to learn will be uploading the pictures.
If you are going to sell in bulk or have a lot to list then I suggest downloading eBay Turbo Lister to your desktop. This can be found on ebay under seller tools . Download is free -- use of software is free.
No matter what you use eBay charges fees to list and they go by the following:

A listing fee
Final auction fee - which is a percentage of the sales
They also charge for items like
Buy it now features, Templates etc.

Also you need to sign up for Paypal so that buyers can send you money for payment of the auction
( most buyers use this method to pay for auctions) Paypal also charges fees to the seller .

All said and done the total amount of fees paid for one auction and using paypal will average approximately 6% of your winning but sometimes more .

The items you described that you wish to sell may not net you an awful lot. If it is not something "extra special" like name brand or antique I would suggest you just post them in the classified Free section of your local paper or on Craigslist.org

What's going wrong? If you're all signed up, you should be able to use their listing tool to write a description, then click through for pricing, postage, photos et cetera. Check out step #3 on this page http://pages.ebay.com/education/selling.html

I also recommend making some purchases before you ever sell anything. You need to know what the transaction looks like from your customer's point of view, or you'll get bad feedback right away.

Ebay is a serious waste of money unless you sell big dollar items.
If you want to find a place to actually MAKE a little bit of money without paying a fortune (like ebay and paypal) use:
http://craigslist.org/

Seriously, unless you're selling cars or electronics, you're not going to make money.
You'll make more having a garage sale!
